Circular Yoga began as a way for adults both at work and at home to center themselves and receive the full benefits of yoga. Its universal appeal has allowed it to expand to serve families in all stages including prenatal, mom & baby, family yoga, and special needs yoga. A challenging series of asanas and yogic techniques are safely taught according to the level of each individual.
Circular Yoga is guided by Stephanie Thankappan, Ph.D., a yoga practitioner from childhood, with over 15 years of experience teaching yoga to people of all ages, levels, and stages in life.
Growing up Stephanie maintained a strong interest in spirituality, meeting and studying with masters, including Indra Devi, Swami Satchidananda, Swami Vishnu-Devananda, Guru Nitya, and Swami Bua. She graduated with honors from Columbia College with a degree in Psychology and concentration in Eastern Religion. Her longstanding interest in stones and their healing properties led her to obtain a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America (G.G.). She has a Practitioner Certificate in clinical Gestalt Psychology, and is a certified Yoga Therapist with additional Yoga Teacher Training certifications. She received her Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), and completed her Ph.D. with honors from Walden University specializing in spiritual leadership and organizational change.
Stephanie has always had an adventurous spirit. She has traveled to more than 50 countries around the world, including to India where she lived, studied, and taught for a dozen years. She has been an avid rock climber for the last two decades and has climbed in several countries in North America, Europe, and Asia. She ran ExtraVertical Climbing Center in New York City for several years and has been actively involved with the media. She directed yoga centers in Manhattan and India from 2004 to 2008, and has taught for New York Sports Clubs and other schools and centers for many years.
